Chicago Humanities Festival has announced the complete lineup for its 2nd annual Springfest, which incorporates sit-down discussions with Olympic gold medalist and transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner. Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Wharton School professor Adam Grant in conversation with Ariel Investments President and DreamWorks Animation Board Chair Mellody Hobson and iconic cult-film director John Waters.
The set of programs, entitled "Stuff" will discover various themes all around human interaction and expertise in a planet of haves and have-nots. In a statement, CHF's Marilynn Thoma Artistic Director Jonathan Elmer described this year's Springfest as "wanting at the points we have and hold-no matter if those factors are valued or discarded, and whether or not we retain them for ourselves or hold them in common." Elmer continued, "Our relation to things is not just a private one, it is political as effectively. So, in addition to tracking attitudes to clutter and recycling and so on, we shine a light on resources that we all share, that are problems held in common: entry to clean water, healthcare, and much more.
We hope to reorient people's pondering about how we relate to the material world, and eventually how we relate to each other."
